Plugins available in Audacity

There are over 90 open source plugins available on the audacity website. Let us see the 2 major plugins that Audacity offers.

LADSPA Tool

LADSPA Stands for Linux audio developer’s simple plug-in API. These effects support the real-time preview. The LADSPA Plugin takes mono or stereo audio on input and gives mono or stereo audio on output.

It is indeed super simple to use, and also very popular. Still, there are many downsides to it such as it contains no instruments, no custom GUIs, and no MIDI.

LADSPA plugins have a generic user interface but it is not that fancy. If you have come from VST then your expectation about Custom GUIs might be lowered.

LV2

It was first introduced in 2008 and it stands for LADSPA Version 2. The plugin can be considered as a perfect replacement for SSI and LADSPA. It also supports unlimited input and output ports.
